Slipstream grew out of a real society, real rivalry, and a community that gave it its spark.

Slipstream first took shape around the Staffordshire University Mario Kart Society. As the idea grew, it moved away from Mario branding and became a racing card game with its own identity, while keeping the same chaos, humour, references, and competitive spark that made the society special.

Since 31/07/2025, Slipstream has grown through repeated redesigns, new systems, and constant playtesting with friends. What visitors see now is the result of a long road, a lot of iteration, and a community that kept the energy alive the whole way through.

Where it came from

From society roots to an original racing world.

Slipstream did not begin as a detached concept. It began in a university society full of people who already loved racing, rivalry, references, and turning game night into a proper event. That gave the game a real heartbeat from day one.

As the game matured, it stepped away from direct Mario branding so it could become more ambitious, more original, and more fully its own. What stayed behind was not borrowed branding. What stayed was the atmosphere.

Built with real support

Slipstream kept growing because people kept showing up for it.

The friendliness of the society, the backing of the committee, and the support of close friends helped turn Slipstream from a fun idea into something worth pushing further. It may be a huge undertaking, but it never felt like a lonely one.

What visitors see on the surface sits on years of iteration.

Redesign passes, revised layouts, changing systems, and repeated tests all helped shape the version of Slipstream people can finally explore. The polish is part of the story too.
